6 tomatoes chopped into small pcs.
1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
Half tsp haldi ( turmeric powder )
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tbsp sesame seeds roasted and ground to a powder
1 tsp zeera/dhaniya powder
10-15 curry leaves (kadi pata)
Salt to taste
In a pot on medium heat add tomatoes, ginger garlic paste, haldi, chilli powder, sesame seeds powder and zeera dhania powder. Cook until the tomatoes turn completely soft or for about 15 minutes. Stir occasionally. For an even finer chutney you can blend the tomatoes and masala into a puree. Now add the kadi pata and continue cooking on low heat. Salt to taste
For the tadka :
Half a tsp cumin seeds (zeera)
Half a tsp mustard seeds (rai)
5-7 Whole red chillies
2 peeled garlic cloves sliced
Quarter cup oil
Heat the oil and add the above ingredients for the tadka and allow them to splutter , as soon as the chillies turn black , pour the tadka on the puree. Mix well and remove from the heat !
Tomato chutney tastes great with rice and kebabs !
